good tuesday morning. i'm sunny hostin. >> i'm john muller. rob nelson and paula faris are on assignment. it is seven weeks until election day. and this morning, the romney campaign facing aajor challenge is. >> a new videotape revealing the candidate telling wealthy donors he's written off half the donors. that led to a late-night news conference. here's abc's david muir. >> reporter: mitt romney walking to the podium with a smile. >> i understand there's a video that's been on the internet for a few weeks that has attracted some attention. >> reporter: that video posted in snippets, by left-leaning magazine, mother jones, show s romney in a circle. in the video, romney appears to say that nearly half of americans believe they're victims. and goes on to say, his job is not to worry about those people. >> there's 47% of the people who will vote for the president, no

matter what. there's. % who are with him, who are dependent on government, who believe they're victims. who believe government has a responsibility to care for them. who believe they're entitled to health care, to food, to housing, you name it. but that's entitlement. and they will vote for this president no matter what. >> reporter: he says those people pay no income tax. because of that, his message of low taxes doesn't connect. >> and so, my job is not to worry about those people. i'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives. what i have to do is convince the 5% to 10% in the center that arindependents. >> whoever has released the snippets, i would appreciate if they release the whole tape. >> reporter: the obama campaign said it is shocking that a candidate for the president of united states would go behind doors to wealthy donors that say americans are unwilling to take

personal responsibility for their lives. president obama had his own moment caught on tape at a fund-raiser. in which he said some voters cling to their guns and religion. >> it's not surprising to me that they get bitter. >> reporter: four years later, it's romney explaining his own words, just as the campaign was looking to reboot, after their convention gave them no bounce. and with the president leading in many key battleground states. david muir, abc news, new york. >> the buzz on this story is expected to grow with the release of more video clips. but we're unlikely to see romney today, as he has no public events on his schedule. the other major story we're following is unfolding in afghanistan this morning. the deadliest attacks so far to avenge that american-made film insulting the prophet muhammad. a suicide bomber driving a car filled with explosives, slammed into a minivan with foreign aid workers traveling to kabul's airport. a military islamic group, claiming responsibility. saying for the first time ever in afghanistan, the attack was carried out by a woman.

this morning, suicide bombing comes on the heels of a warning from the influential head of lebanon's hezbollah movement, who made a rare public appearance at a rally in beirut. he said, remove the film from the internet or accept response consequences. more than 130 inmates are on the loose this morning after escaping from a prison in northern mexico, right near the texas border. authorities say the prisoners broke out through a 20-foot tunnel yesterday. then, cut their way through a chain-link fence. they're questioning the staff to see if they were involved. many of the fugitives were convicted drug traffickers. an attorney for that would-be terrorist teen in chicago says the charges will be not contested. saying his client was improperly lured by an fbi sting. he appeared in federal court to face those charges, attempting to use a weapon of mass

destruction. accused of blowing up what he thought was a car bomb outside a bar last friday night. an anonymous phone call triggered a bomb scare at new york's jfk airport. but it turned out to be a big hoax. a flight from san francisco and a flight from helsinki were searched yesterday. nothing was found. but things got tense between the tower and one of the pilots. >> we're surrounded by emergency vehicles. there's a reason for this. somebody's got to give us the reason or we're going to evacuate the aircraft. you got 60 seconds. >> the caller claimed two terrorists with explosives were hidden in the wheel wells of the two planes. passengers were allowed to leave after authorities gave the all-clear. nasa, hoping to finally get space shuttle "endeavour" going westward tomorrow. bad weather along the gulf has delayed sending the retired spacecraft to its home in southern california. it will be housed at the los

angeles airport until its move to its permanent the california science center. well, time, now, for the weather from across the nation. it will be a messy commute along the east coast, with strong storms bringing rain, hail, high winds and the threat of a tornado. inland cities could see up to four inches of rain and flash flooding. pleasant and sunny, though, on the west coast. >> fall arrives a few days early in the midwest, with chicago and fargo near 60. phoenix, very close to the average at about 100 degrees. now, when we come back, a new weapon in the weight loss war. also ahead, do not call complaints are soaring. and guess which tops the list. and later a voice-activated popcorn launching machine, changing the snack world, one kernel at a time.

welcome back. the fed is out with an answer to high unemployment, confidence. a new federal reserve study says the jobless rate would be about 7% instead of over 8%, if consumers had less doubt about the economy and spent more. the report says uncertainty has tacked on one to two points in the jobless rate since the financial crisis began. americans now have access to the first new prescription weight loss pill to hit the market in over a decade. drugmaker vivis announced the launch of qsymia, which was

approved back in july. patients using the drug can lose 6% to 9% of their body weight. more americans are sick and tired of telemarketers who are hounding them despite the do-not-call list. the number of complaints has tripled since 2010. fewer telemarketers are complying with rules. the biggest complaint, those recorded robocalls. here's the new place to find all the news fit to stream, starting today. the project called internet archive will put all the tv news produced since 2009. every story from 20 channels. 350,000 different programs, on its site. bad news if you just can't wait to get your hands on a mcrib. mcdonald's is delaying the appearance of the limited-time favorite. moving it from mid-october to december instead, as it tries to boost year-end sales numbers. and from meat to vegetables.

an employee said white broke a hotel phone. and sad news for millions of "general hospital" fans. the actor who played patriarch edward quartermaine has died. john ingle took over the role in 1993 and made his final appearance in an episode that aired last week. he died sunday in los angeles after a battle with cancer. he was 84 years old. marshal island's man says an unlikely beast portrayed in the movie "jaws," we're talking about a shark, saved his life. he and his brother were traveling by boat between islands when they ran out of fuel and got stranded. the brother-in-law died. but he drifted and survived for 15 weeks, until one morning, a 6-foot shark alerted him to a rescue ship that arrived to save him. time, now, for sports. and a monday night performance peyton manning would probably like to forget. espn takes us through the game in 90 seconds. >> good morning. i'm dog kezirian with your

"sportscenter" update. in his last ten appearances on "monday night football," peyton manning walked away a winner nine times. but those came in colts jerseys. this time with denver, as the broncos visited the atlanta falcons last night. first possession in the game for denver, manning picked off by william moore. next possession, intercepted again by thomas datu. then, in the first quarter, robert mcclain picked him off again. the second time in manning's career he's thrown three interceptions in the first quarter. atlanta up 13-0 in the second quarter. ryan, a wide-open tony gonzalez. 20-0. broncos trying to strike. manning to the end zone. demaryius thomas initially ruled incomplete by the refs. we go upstairs and review the play. thomas does drag the left foot. it's a 20-7 game at half. third quarter now, ryan rolling out. hits roddy white for the
